Practical Responses to Challenges in Contemporary Web Education
Enormous improvements in communication have made understanding more difficult. Even science, mathematics, and music as the last refuge of Western mind have come under the spell of the mechanized vernacular.1
Teaching Web design and development at the university level is a two-fold challenge. The first challenge is that the traditional model of teaching and learning (i.e. lectures, quizzes, and a final exam) doesn't apply or even work for applied Web technology education. The second challenge is the set of expectations of contemporary students concerning factors such as asynchronicity, convenience, ubiquity, speed, and customization in their education, that is, the what, when, and how they learn seems to increase and change with each new class of learner.
